OCCUPY MUSIC IS A TRIBUTE OF ARTISTIC WITNESS: AN ALBUM, A PLATFORM, A FUNDRAISER
This project honors the resilient spirits of Minnesotans and documents the complexity of their experiences. In support of the power of our collective voice, we open up a time capsule that amplifies the music being created during this historic chapter. This is not a project of false unity nor manufactured slogans, but a resonance of our brilliant music scene - a true and lasting bond forged through suffering, care, and the boundless creativity of our state.
CORE PRINCIPLES
A Plurality of Truths: There is no required tone or genre. We welcome the full spectrum of the Minnesota experience.
Integrity Over Performative Attention: This project is not about chasing trends or virality, breaking new artists, nor exploiting established artists. It is about making something true that will remain true.
No Airtime for Hate: While we embrace rage and pain as valid responses to suffering, we hold a zero-tolerance policy for dehumanization or exclusion.
ARTISTS
Solo musicians or groups, aligned with the project’s principles and structure, whose formative work, identity, or artistic lineage is deeply tied to Minnesota. You are welcome as you are, however, we also see this as a unique moment to collaborate. If you’ve been looking for a reason to collaborate across genres or circles, let this be your catalyst.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: TWO PATHWAYS
We recognize that time and resources are scarce. To ensure this project is accessible, we offer two ways to contribute:
The DIY Pathway: Submit a finished track from your own studio or home setup.
The Supported Pathway: If you have a song but face financial or technical barriers, let us know.
SONGS
New Originals: Songs written specifically in response to this current moment.
Existing Works: Songs from your catalog that have taken on a new, resonant meaning.
Tributes: Covers of songs by other Minnesota songwriters that speak to our current climate.
OWNERSHIP & DISTRIBUTION
100% Artist Ownership: You retain full ownership of your work. By participating, you are simply granting us the right to include your track in this specific project.
The Living Archive: To honor the breadth of our community, songs that meet our core principles will be hosted and available for streaming on the official Occupy Music MN website.
The Curated Compilation Album: Some of these songs will be compiled for a formal release on major streaming services. A “Pay What You Can” model will encourage inclusivity of listenership while vigorously fundraising.
REINVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY
This is a project of love and empathy. ALL proceeds generated from the curated album and any associated fundraising will be donated directly to local organizations and community groups assisting those most severely affected by the countless current challenges in our metro areas.
